Javascript Thoughts

01 Sep 2016
I found that Javascript was very similar to Java and C. The difficulty of Javascript is somewhere between Java and C. At least with Java and Javascript you do not have to worry about pointers. While learning Javascript is fairly easy, I am unaware of the application of Javascript to the real world. The main goals that I have when learning a new language is to first evaluate if I like the language, then find some practical uses for it, and then finally think of a project that interests me and can further my understanding.

Learning a new language is a "hit or miss". Most of the time, I either love the language or hate it. One thing that I like about Javascript is the simplicity of it. I was able to do the basic Javascript exercises on freecodecamp.com with my little experience with programming. This shows that the basics of programming can be applied to any language. Although Javascript is a fairly easy language to pick up, I do have one pet peeve with it so far. I do not enjoy typing so many quotation marks when creating properties for objects. Other than that, I give Javascript a thumbs-up.

If I were to critique the Javascript language from a software engineering perspective, it would be inaccurate. In order to properly asses a language, as Leonardo DiCaprio once said, "we need to go deeper". And that is what I plan to do in this class, I plan to go deeper. To find out how I can make something interesting and cool to share with the community. The hard part is getting there.
